This week’s episode started on a high note. While waiting for the elevator, Michael ran into David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais. That’s the first time they’ve met on the show. Their conversation was AWESOME! Since Ricky’s character was the inspiration for Michael Scott, it was like Michael was meeting himself!
The episode’s big story was about a small business seminar that Andy was hosting in the office. He hoped to gain a few more clients that way. Jim, Dwight, Stanley and Phyllis all backed out on him at the last minute. Andy had to rush around and put together a ram-shackle team composed of Kevin, Creed and Kelly. Kevin’s presentation was great. He ran around the room before presenting – which eventually caused him to vomit in a wastebasket as he spoke about success. As the seminar was coming to a close, Michael pulled Andy aside and gave him a pep talk to help motivate him. Andy went on to get a few people to buy his business package.
Another great segment dealt with Gabe and Erin’s relationship. Pam and Oscar tried to help Erin beat Gabe in a game of online Scrabble. The winner would get to choose which movie they’d watch that evening. Unfortunately, Erin managed to lose even with Pam and Oscar’s help. At the end of the episode, as Gabe was touting his movie selection, Andy popped over and gave Erin a copy of Shrek 2. She seemed more interested in that as opposed to what Gabe wanted to watch. I think there may be a future storyline here. Wouldn’t you love to see Andy and Erin get together? Hmm, where have I seen this before? Ahh, that’s right….Jim and Pam! I guess it worked once before, why not?
One last note, in their conversation, David Brent asked Michael if Dunder Mifflin had any job openings. That’s interesting, considering we all know that Michael is leaving after this season. I could see David Brent taking Michael Scott’s place and the show not skipping a beat. But that just might be a tease. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
