The Office – The Seminar

This week’s episode started on a high note.  While waiting for the elevator, Michael ran into David Brent, played by Ricky Gervais.  That’s the first time they’ve met on the show.  Their conversation was AWESOME!  Since Ricky’s character was the inspiration for Michael Scott, it was like Michael was meeting himself!

The episode’s big story was about a small business seminar that Andy was hosting in the office.  He hoped to gain a few more clients that way.  Jim, Dwight, Stanley and Phyllis all backed out on him at the last minute.  Andy had to rush around and put together a ram-shackle team composed of Kevin, Creed and Kelly.  Kevin’s presentation was great.  He ran around the room before presenting – which eventually caused him to vomit in a wastebasket as he spoke about success.  As the seminar was coming to a close, Michael pulled Andy aside and gave him a pep talk to help motivate him.  Andy went on to get a few people to buy his business package.

Another great segment dealt with Gabe and Erin’s relationship.  Pam and Oscar tried to help Erin beat Gabe in a game of online Scrabble.  The winner would get to choose which movie they’d watch that evening.  Unfortunately, Erin managed to lose even with Pam and Oscar’s help.  At the end of the episode, as Gabe was touting his movie selection, Andy popped over and gave Erin a copy of Shrek 2.  She seemed more interested in that as opposed to what Gabe wanted to watch.  I think there may be a future storyline here.  Wouldn’t you love to see Andy and Erin get together?  Hmm, where have I seen this before?  Ahh, that’s right….Jim and Pam!  I guess it worked once before, why not?

One last note, in their conversation, David Brent asked Michael if Dunder Mifflin had any job openings.  That’s interesting, considering we all know that Michael is leaving after this season.  I could see David Brent taking Michael Scott’s place and the show not skipping a beat.  But that just might be a tease.  I guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Will Ferrell is coming to The Office

Will Ferrell

from gossipcop.com

Cheer up Office fans, even though Michael Scott is leaving the show, Will Ferrell has signed up to be part of the hit TV series.  When I heard the news, I was excited and can’t wait to see what he will bring to the show’s atmosphere.  I talked about this with my friend today and he’s just as pumped as I am.  I’m a big fan of Will’s and love everything he’s been in.  He’s a great choice for The Office, I can’t wait to see him and Michael interact (if they’re both in the same episodes).  Until then, keep up the faith!  The Office after Steve Carell will be just fine.  To get more info on this great news check out the links below.

The State of the Union – 2011

Obama 2011

I’m not a political correspondent, nor do I have aspirations to be one.  However, I watched the State of the Union speech last night and wanted to give a quick run-down of what I saw.

During the first few moments prior to the speech, we learned that the seating arrangement was re-designed to mix up the parties more.  I was glad to hear that.  It goes a long way in showing how our government should work – as a team, not as Democrats vs. Republicans.  I also noticed that whenever the President got a standing ovation, very few of the Supreme Court Justices stood.  Maybe that’s by design, maybe it’s a tradition – but some of the President’s remarks cut across all boundaries.  When the President spoke of doing things that would benefit all Americans, wouldn’t you expect EVERYONE to applaud that?

I really liked that the representatives from Arizona left an empty seat for Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot by an assassin in Tucson.  That was a very moving gesture and the delegation stood and applauded when President Obama spoke about her.

One specific thing that President Obama said was that Americans have been forced to live within their means.  He went on to say that the American people deserve a government that does the same.  I laughed out loud when I heard that.  I had never thought of that, he’s right.

Overall, I thought the speech was good; a lot of the items that President Obama spoke about were not new and are very polarizing issues.  I was very glad to hear him push renewable energy and set a goal of 80% of Americans getting their energy from clean sources.  That’s a fantastic goal.  Although I think that achieving it will take a tremendous amount of change and innovation.

I also liked that the President referenced Sputnik moments as a way to remind Americans that we’ve faced enormous challenges before and we were able to overcome them.  This speech can be seen as a motivational type speech.  I hope everyone that heard it is inspired, energized, and ready to move this country forward.  President Obama touched on many issues and promised to cut government spending as well as invest in new technology and better education.  It will be difficult to make progress on everything he spoke about, but any progress in those areas can only help to improve life in America.

The Office – Ultimatum

Thankfully, this past Thursday’s episode of The Office was new.  It’s been a few weeks since a new episode aired and I was looking forward to watching.

At the beginning of the episode we saw Dwight and his friends, The Knights of the Night.  Apparently, these guys helped catch the Scranton Strangler…not really.  They did manage to play flashlight tag – it sounds like fun.  Although, I bet if I tried playing that at midnight in an office park dressed like a Knight of the Night, I’d probably get arrested!

Pam created a resolution board so that everyone could publicly share their resolutions with the office.  There were some pretty interesting resolutions on that board.  We learned that Darryl wants to read more (good for him!)  He talked Dwight and Andy into driving him to the bookstore so that he could shop.  I’m glad to see Darryl getting involved in more stories, he can be so funny.  Watching him on the roller skating rink was great.  Here’s a random question: Where did Dwight get those kneepads from?  Did he rent them or were they in his car?  Hmmm.

The storyline between Michael and Holly went back and forth.  I enjoyed watching Michael celebrate in his office with Erin.  The way he interacted with himself on the computer was classic Michael Scott.  “Michael Scott dance off!”  At the end of the episode we saw that Holly called AJ and said that she wants to take a break.  This could be a good thing for Michael.

Overall, I like this episode.  There have been funnier ones, and we know that there have been worse ones.  Some of the high points made me laugh out loud while others weren’t so great.  I loved how Kevin reacted to Holly when she gave the double ring fingers.  When the show was over, my wife told me that she wasn’t overly impressed by what she saw.  For me, it was The Office and I got to see some of my favorite portray characters that I love.  What more could I ask for?
