Lost – What Kate Does

This episode followed Kate after flight 815 landed in LAX and showed more of the developments in the Temple.  There was a big surprise at the end that involves a survivor that we really haven’t seen in a while.

Let me start by saying that overall, I didn’t really like this episode.  I thought it was slow moving and there really wasn’t much action.  That being said, there were some good things about this episode.  We see more mirroring of past episodes.  Kate is present at the hospital as Claire is close to giving birth to Aaron – Kate helped to deliver Aaron on the island.  We also see Ethan at the hospital and he eventually suggests sticking needles into Claire, just like he did on the island.

We got to see a little more of what’s happening in the Temple.  The Temple-Dwellers (who are really The Others) are convinced that Sayid has been claimed by the blackness, possibly the Smoke Monster.  Dogan, their leader, created a medicine capsule to ‘cure’ Sayid.  Jack is reluctant to give it to Sayid, and rightly so.  The medicine turns out to be poison.  According to Dogan, eventually the blackness will consume Sayid, just as it consumed Jack’s sister.  BAM!  Claire has been claimed?!  Well, it does make sense; the last time we saw her, she was with Christian inside Jacob’s cabin.  At the end of this episode Claire makes her appearance, killing 2 of The Others.

There was a little sadness in this episode too; We learned that Sawyer was going to ask Juliet to marry him.  Unfortunately, that can’t happen now.  How quickly things changed for him.  He was living pretty well for the past 3 years in Dharmaville.  It’s a shame it had to end.  Although, the survivors never did belong in 1977 anyway.

Finally, here are a few things that I noticed:

-In the hospital, Kate had to hide while police officers questioned Claire about a Joan Hart who checked in with her.  Claire told them that she was just the cab driver and that she probably left already.  As soon as the police left, Kate came out of hiding and started talking to Claire.  Immediately I thought, “You better wait a minute or two before going out there.”  Any cop worth his or her badge would know to wait by the door for a minute to see what happens.  They obviously didn’t, but they should have.  Oh by the way, I’m sure the cab was still parked out front!

– Jack actually tried to swallow the poison capsule.  Um hello, couldn’t you just tell Dogan, “I don’t trust you.  I’m not giving this pill to Sayid unless you tell me what’s in it.”  Did he really want to swallow the poison?  That was a pretty drastic move.

– After Kate freed herself from the handcuffs, she was able to get back into the cab and find Claire.  How’d she do that?  Was Claire still waiting on the same corner?  Out of all the places Claire could have gone, Kate was able to find her almost too quickly.

Survivor is Back – Heroes vs Villains

Well, tonight marks the beginning of another season of Survivor.  This year’s theme is heroes vs. villains, with many past stars returning to compete, such as Colby, Rupert and Jerri.  It’s been a few years since I’ve watched an episode; I think the whole concept got a little stale.  To me, it was pretty much the same thing over and over again except the faces changed.  I can only watch 5 people put together a huge puzzle in the sand so many times.  However, with the return of Rupert (who I’ve always liked) and Colby (who my wife always liked), I decided to give it another shot.  I think it will be fun to get back into it.  Maybe some things have changed since I last watched.  Either way, if you’re following the show, stop by sometime to get my take.

The Bachelor – Episode 5

Well, Jake has his work cut out for him!  There are 5 women left and it’s getting harder and harder to send women home.  In this episode Everyone one got a date with Jake,  there were 2 one on one dates and one two on one date.  The date with Tenley was fun, they both went window shopping and had fun playing with random toys that were for sale in Chinatown.  I think these two go together well, their personalities really line up.

Prior to the two on one date, Jake admits that he thinks they’re awkward. Later on, Vienna tell us that she’s going to act like Gia wasn’t even there. Well, that’s pretty awkward, isn’t it.  Hearing that. I thought she was crazy.  Jake’s going to notice something like that – I would.  I got a real chuckle when he leaned up against Gia as Vienna was talking his ear off about something.  Then he chooses to get some alone time with Gia first.  Nice!!

Not to be outdone, Vienna pulls a real ‘smooth move’ by visiting Jake in his bedroom after the date.  I could tell that he really wanted her to leave so that he could just go to bed.  Only later on did she realize that doing sneaking off to see him wasn’t really the smartest idea.  She’s just infatuated with the idea of being the last woman he sees at the end of the night.

Ali got a chance to show Jake around San Francisco, her home town.  Things went well, she let Jake know that she respected his decision making and would back off on the whole Vienna thing.  Well it’s about time!  Sure we all can’t wait to see what happens next, but I was growing a little tired of the whole thing.  Sooner or later Jake would’ve had to say something – enough’s enough!  Why waste precious date time talking about another girl? Later on at the rose ceremony, Corrie is sent home.

One of the things that I really found hilarious was the way Jake acted in this episode.  He let us know that he’s falling for pretty much every girl, of course! Each girl voiced their concern that he was either ignoring her or not really giving her the attention she wanted.  Each time he had to smooth talk them, telling them he’s glad that she’s still there, or how proud he was to have her still around.  It was funny to watch him work these women.  Pretty soon, he’s going to have to make that decision.  Four of these women that he’s fallen for have to be sent home.  It will be interesting to see how things play out.

Lost – LA X Part 2

Part 2 starts out with the revelation that Christian’s body has been lost by Oceanic; they’re really not sure where it is.  Again we’re shown both outcomes, back on the island and in the LAX terminal.  Jacob visits Hurley and tells him what to do in order to save Sayid; the group follows Hurley’s direction and they travel to the Temple.  After an encounter with a mysterious group of people at the Temple, Sayid is declared dead.  Elsewhere on the island, Ben talks with the resurrected John Locke and ultimately sees that he is in fact the Smoke Monster.  Jacob’s protectors tried to kill the impostor but are destroyed by the Smoke Monster itself.  When the mysterious Temple-dwellers realize that Jacob is dead, they start barricading the Temple in an effort to keep the Smoke Monster at bay.  They also fire off some sort of warning flare that is seen by Richard Alpert, who no doubt realizes what that means.  The episode closes as Jack and John strike up a friendship in the terminal and Smoke Monster John makes his way inland carrying an unconscious Richard.

This episode had a little more action than Part 1, and raised a few more questions, like who are these Temple-dwellers?  And Jacob only died an hour ago?  How does that fit with the time line?  We’re given a few clues (I’m sure there are many more that I missed,) as to what’s going on.  Shortly after the episode started, Sawyer makes Miles tell him what Juliet wanted to say before she died.  Miles does his “I talk to dead people” thing and tells Sawyer that Juliet says, “It worked.”  Now maybe Sawyer was still a little caught up in the moment, because he asked, “What worked?”  Duh, what do you think worked?!  My question is how does she know it worked?  She was buried under a mountain of debris.  I do have an idea as to how she knows, and I have a feeling that it may show up in a later episode.  If not, then something similar.  As Jack, Kate Jin and Hurley are working to pull an Iron beam off of the debris pile; Sawyer gets worried that he doesn’t hear Juliet’s voice.  I think that during this time she is visited by Jacob.  He could have appeared and let her know that she was successful.

We also get to see how things would have played out if the plane had landed in LAX.  As expected, Kate is forced to continue her life on the run.  Despite all of the pain and suffering along the way, I think she’s one of the characters who are better off on the island.  I also though it was interesting to see Jack and John interact in the terminal.  When John tells Jack that his condition is irreversible, Jack lets him not that nothing is irreversible.  Back in LA, John seems to be the realist while Jack has suddenly become more of a believer.  That a stark contrast from what we saw on the island after the crash.

We learned a little more about the Smoke Monster during this episode.  Evidently the Monster can’t cross over ashes (I’m not sure what kind of ashes).  Last season, as Jacob’s protectors were making their way to see him, they noticed that there was a break in the circle of ashes that surrounded his cabin.  Now that scene makes a little more sense.  It was probably put there to keep the Monster either inside or outside that circle.  Later on in the episode, One of the protectors tried using the ashes to protect himself from the Monster but is ultimately killed.  We see the ashes again at the Temple when they are setting up the barricade.

At the end of the episode, when the Temple dwellers set off the signal flare, Richard Alpert sees it, which means the survivors from 1977 are back on the same time line as the rest of the survivors.  This means that a reunion is bound to happen.  By the looks of things, I think that Smoke Monster John will probably use Richard as some sort of bargaining chip once he gets to the Temple.
