Survivor – Week 7

The reward challenge was tough, the survivors played basketball in the water. With James and Tom gone, there was a lot of pressure on Colby. If he doesn’t come through, he’s as good as gone. Luckily, he came up huge during the game and the Heroes won the reward – a healthy meal.
Over on the Villains side, Coach was being Coach. He was a little upset that Jerri committed to going along with Russell. He wanted to talk about it with her before they made their decision. I think he’s too emotional. He’s crying because Sandra doesn’t think he’s a leader, he wants to be Rob’s best buddy, and now he’s mad that Jerri didn’t want to talk about a decision that she made.
The Immunity Challenge was exciting to watch. I’d like to try it, just to see how well I could do. Anyway, The Heroes were able to hold their own and won the challenge. It was good to see them win a few in a row. I think there are a few too many Villains on the other side.
At Tribal Council, Rob was voted out. I was shocked! It was a smart move to some extent, but Rob was a strong player during the challenges. I’d want to get him out early too, but it’s now going to be as much fun to watch without him now. I though it was great when Rob told Coach he was a little man. Oh, SLAM!!! That really hurt Coach – he wanted Rob’s approval the whole time. Coach thought he was going to get a hug from Rob; instead he got dissed! Unfortunately, “Rob, the tribe has spoken.”

Lost – The Package

This episode showed us more about the lives of Jin and Sun after Oceanic 815 landed in LA. Apparently they aren’t married and Sun’s father hired Martin Keamy to “pop him.” Back on the island, Sun avoids joining Smoke Monster John but bumps her head and can no longer speak English. Meanwhile Richard wants to destroy the plane so Smoke Monster John cannot escape.
To me, this was just another episode, not too much was revealed. I did have some inspiring predictions though. Of course I was proven wrong again, but that’s why I watch!
I wonder what Smoke Monster John meant when he said that he was 3 people shy of getting off the island. If he manages to get those 3 people, what would he do? Would he kill them? Does he need them to bargain for his escape? I’m not really sure, I’m guessing there’d be no bargaining – who would he bargain with? Jacob’s dead. Smoke Monster John let Claire know that he needs her and Kate; they obviously both fit into his plan.
Watching Richard and Sun exchange words was great, Richard was so funny when he asked why she wasn’t speaking English. As the scene was playing out I felt Sun’s frustration. If I was her, I would have written something in the sand to get my point across. I’m not sure why she didn’t do that. Oh yeah, maybe I do…sometimes characters on the island don’t act like normal people would!
Just before the mystery person was revealed to us, I was convinced that I had the answer. Widmore showed Jin a digital camera that had pictures of his daughter and says that he knows what it’s like to be apart. I thought for sure that the “package” was going to be Jin’s daughter. She could be the Kwon that’s on Jacob’s list! Unfortunately, I was proven wrong and the package was in fact Desmond. How he fits into this, I’m not sure. I hope we get the chance to learn more in the next episode.

Celebrity Apprentice – Lifelock / Norton 360

This week’s task was to create a 4 page advertorial introducing a new product bundle from Norton and Lifelock. The bundle is aimed to protect consumers from identity theft. Both teams created good advertorials, but neither was exactly what the executives were looking for. Rock Solid was more organized for this task than they were last week. Bret was a little hard to manage, and Darryl Strawberry seemed a little too laid back. Over on Tenacity’s side, you could see the tension building as the women worked out their design. Once again, Cyndi slowed down the whole process, while Summer really couldn’t articulate her ideas clearly.
I don’t think Tenacity really gelled this week. Their advertorial and presentation was chosen over Rock Solid’s, but the executives will still need to do some tweaking in order to make it useful. The meeting with the executives was brutal. C’mon, really? Cyndi brought up her son’s internet habits? Someone should pull her aside before these meetings and tell her to stay focused and just listen to what the executives say.
Rod Blagojevich continues to amaze me. While he was going to the prop warehouse with Darryl, he actually walked out of his way to shake hands with anyone and everyone. It was funny to see. Darryl had to tell him, this is New York; you gotta say hi and keep walking. Otherwise, I’m sure their walk would have taken forever! At one point in the process of discussing their spokesperson, Rod said that he wished there was more discussion – and I think he’s right. Michael had his man picked and didn’t want to talk about it. It would have been nice to see him get input from the team before making his decision. Shortly afterward, Rod is shown talking about that discussion and he lists 4 things that he was able to accomplish as Governor of Illinois “in gridlock”. Unbelievable! This guy is constantly tooting his own horn and pointing out his accomplishments. Are all politicians like that? I guess in his situation he may feel the need to point out his successes, right now people see him in a negative light.
Darryl Strawberry seemed extremely laid back; he took a few extra minutes to smoke before getting in the van to go to the prop warehouse. If you watched closely, you could see him gravitating to the couch that was in the studio where Rock Solid was working. The funniest moment for me was watching Rod use a laptop. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Although, I shouldn’t laugh too loudly – he types just like me!
In the end Darryl offered himself up to be fired. He kinda quit though. It’s too bad, I think he would have done well; he was the biggest draw last week. I hope that his charity doesn’t feel let down by that. Hopefully, he won’t regret that decision. “Darryl, you’re fired.”

Lost – Ab Aeterno

Finally! This episode centered on Richard Alpert. Until this episode, he was one of the most mysterious people on the island. This episode was amazing – perhaps my favorite one so far. There was almost no flashing sideways, so it was easy to stay focused and really get into the episode. I couldn’t look away for a second – I was afraid I’d miss something important.
When the flashback about Richard began, we’re amazed to see that it began in 1867. Richard is shown caring for his ailing wife. He desperately tries to save her, but by the time he had the medicine for her, she had already passed away. Richard was then imprisoned and sold into slavery. He was aboard the Black Rock when it crashed on the island.
There were so many things to pick up on; I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to cover them here. The most interesting thing actually dawned on me after I saw the ship crash into Jacob’s statue. The ship’s name was The Black Rock. A black rock destroyed Jacob’s statue. This is obviously a play on the light vs. dark theme. I’m surprised that I never really made that connection before.
It was eerie to watch the Man in Black interact with Richard. He convinced Richard that Jacob was the devil and sent him to stab Jacob. “Don’t let him speak” Haven’t we heard that before? It was like Déjà vu when the Man in Black told Richard that the devil (Jacob) had his wife and needed to be killed. That was a lie. Just like the lie Smoke Monster John told Claire about Aaron. I thought to myself, “this guy’s been lyin’ for years – 140 years at least!”
Speaking of Déjà vu, we got to see the first time the Man in Black told Richard it was good to see him out of his chains. That further explains Richard’s reaction when Smoke Monster John said that to him shortly after Jacob was killed. At that moment, Richard knew who John Locke really was.
In 1867, when Richard first encountered Jacob, Richard needed to be convinced that he wasn’t already dead. Jacob forced Richard out to the sea and dunked him underwater several times, much like a baptism. As a result, Richard was re-born and began to see things as they truly were on the island. Jacob and Richard make an agreement: Richard will act as Jacob’s intermediary between him and the people on the island in exchange for eternal life.
Jacob’s analogy with the wine bottle was very telling. The island is keeping the Man in Black (now Smoke Monster John) away from the rest of the world. That’s probably a good thing, wouldn’t you agree? Smoke Monster John can’t be allowed to leave the island. I hope Widmore understands that. I know he’s cookin’ something up, it better not involve the Smoke Monster leaving the island. Too much has happened on the island, it would seem like a waste of time if the Man in Black were to succeed.
