Lost – Everybody loves Hugo

Ok, I know, this episode aired like 3 weeks ago. I’ just a bit behind – but I’m still gonna analyze what happened. The episode started out with Hugo winning the Man of the Year Award and the flash sideways showed him getting to know Libby a bit more. On the island Hugo sees Michael and is told that “people are listening to you now.” Interesting, I wonder why – because he’s a candidate? Because he can talk to the dead? Because he’s totally awesome? I’m thinking people are starting to realize that his power is very useful, he’s been right about a lot of things recently. He helped Richard in his time of weakness, and he brought Jack to the lighthouse where he suddenly started believing.
Michael makes an appearance and tells Hugo to stop Richard from blowing up the plane. As a result, Hugo takes it upon himself to blow up the Black Rock – boy was Richard pissed!
Hugo and Libby finally get their picnic date, Libby is convinced that she knows Hugo from another life and explains about the crash and their fondness for each other. After kissing Libby, Hugo starts to remember his island experience too.
Smoke Monster John meets up with the now captive Desmond and takes him to an old well where Smoke Monster John pushes Desmond into the well. To which my wife exclaimed “I knew he was gonna throw him in there!” I guess we all had a feeling that would happen. Desmond was so calm while talking to Smoke Monster John. As he’s talking to Smoke Monster John, he’s starting to realize that “the island has it in for all of us.” Later he tells Smoke Monster John, “What’s the point in being scared?” This is a different Desmond all right; I hope we get more clues as to what he’s up to.
Car crash
Here are a few things that I picked up on:
– I really noticed how cold and to the point Sayid after being claimed. Yeah, he was all business before, but now he’s even more so. His face is expressionless!
– Didn’t Jack know they were going to see the Smoke Monster in the form of John Locke? Why was he so surprised and awed when he finally saw him?
– Dr Chang was the speaker at Hugo’s Man of the Year Award ceremony. We didn’t get to see his face, but we did hear his voice. He sounded pretty good considering that he’s 40 years older than the last time we saw him!

Survivor – Week 10

This week’s reward challenge was pretty difficult, especially for Rupert, with his broken toe. I’m sure that putting all their weight on such a small foothold got painful fast. The Villains won the challenge and finally got to enjoy quite a feast. Outback provided the food, which must have been delicious. While I was watching this, I thought to myself, from what we’ve seen, the Villains haven’t been eating all that well recently. It was probably quite a shock to their bodies to suddenly be flooded with huge steaks. Also, it was hilarious when JT proclaimed that he must have had 1000 steaks in his life. “We ate black angus beef off the bone.” The way he said it was so funny. I’ve mimicked him several times already!
Jerri freely admitted that Russell is running the show on the Villains side. However, it was cool to see that Parvati is starting to plot against Russell. When she and Danielle went looking for and found the hidden idol, Parvati called herself the Queen (they weren’t too secretive with that huge shovel, were they?) But they have the idol and Russell is none the wiser.
The Heroes took a huge gamble and handed their hidden immunity idol over to Russell after the Immunity Challenge. STUPID MOVE!! At Tribal Council, Courtney was voted out – another not so big surprise, although, I am surprised she made it this far – especially over Boston Rob and Coach. Well, that pretty much sums up this episode; I’m off to enjoy my 1001st steak! Mmm, Mmmmm!

Survivor – Week 8

This week JT went in search of the hidden Immunity Idol – luckily, Candice saw him shortly after he found it and had to come clean with the other Heroes. At the Reward Challenge, Rupert assumed that there was an all girl alliance on the Villains team, boy is he wrong! The Villains lost both challenges and are sent to Tribal Council where Coach is voted out.
The best part of this episode for me was that Sandra played a little mind game with Russell. She made it seem like Coach was second guessing his alliance with Russell. Russell bought it immediately; he “ate that crap up.” It was a brilliant maneuver that saved Courtney from being eliminated.
Russell is in an interesting situation. The Heroes think that he’s on the outs and that there is an all girl alliance in the Villains tribe. JT believes it so much, that he makes eye contact with Russell and tells him to hang in there. Jeesh! C’mon, are you blind? Oh wait a minute; he’s not sitting at home watching the same thing we’re watching. I guess if I were JT I would probably make the same observation. It’s easy to see what’s going on while watching at home, but if we were on the Heroes or Villains team, we wouldn’t know what was going on in the other camp.
I can’t wait to see how this all plays out. Hopefully, the Heroes keep winning and slowly get the Villains tribe trimmed down to a more manageable number. We all know this day was coming, so we’re not all that surprised – Coach the tribe has spoken.

Lost – Happily Ever After

Well, surprise, surprise, I was wrong again! This episode focused on Desmond Hume, not Ben Linus or Dharma as I predicted in an earlier post. That being said, I think this was a pretty good episode, we’re still a little confused as to how everything connects together, but we’re getting there.
It looks like Desmond is a central piece to this puzzle. Widmore said that Desmond will have to make a sacrifice or everyone else will be gone forever. Interesting. I wonder what will happen next, as Sayid no doubt will lead Desmond to Smoke Monster John. Desmond seems at peace with his destiny, as the episode closed, he willingly went with Sayid instead of trying to get back to the mainland.
The flash sideways was full of characters that we’ve seen before. The most notable difference to me was how Widmore respected Desmond. Widmore actually shared some of his “priceless” Scotch with Desmond, telling him, “nothings too good for you.” Just like their time on the island, Charlie and Desmond benefit from each other. When Desmond was trying to get Charlie out of the sinking car, he had a flash to the moment on the island when he learned that the freighter was not Penny’s boat. There was another moment in the LAX terminal when he told Claire that her baby was going to be a boy. It’s almost like Desmond can see glimpses of the future. We know it’s going to be a boy, and we also know that Desmond saw Charlie’s future when they were on the island. Maybe Desmond still has that skill.
Desmond’s encounter with Eloise was also interesting. She told him “that it is a violation, stop looking for it. You’re not ready.” Looking for what? Not ready for what? Could it be that Desmond’s mindset at the time (keep in mind that he’s unconscious as he’s experiencing this.) makes him “not ready”, and that finding a way off the island is what he should stop looking for? When he finally regained consciousness, we saw a very different Desmond. Maybe he’s ready now.
We got to see Daniel Faraday again, no wait…its Daniel Widmore now and he’s a musician, not a quantum physicist. Is your head spinning yet? In a way that makes sense. If everyone left the island in 1977, there was no need for Eloise to force Daniel to choose physics over music. He never went to the island and never got shot by his mother. However, he asked Desmond, “What if this was not supposed to be our lives?” He also shared with Desmond that he thinks he may have already set off an atomic bomb. It seems like the island still has power over these people. It’s calling to them, even though they never crashed there (and from the bottom of the ocean mind you!)
