The show started off with Nilka being pissed off at her team. That carried over to the challenge; she took all of the good ingredients and wouldn’t work with her team. They had 20 ingredients and needed to make 3 separate dishes without using any of the ingredients more than once. Of course, if you watched the show close enough, a few ingredients were used more than once. What’s that all about? On the Blue team, both Ben and Jason used potatoes. The Red team, well Nilka took all of the good ingredients and left the scraps for the rest of her team. There was a scene where she told Scott that she had the potatoes, so don’t bother using them. But the dish that Scott prepared was a potato soup! Did the producers really think we wouldn’t catch that?
The difference in teams is very apparent. The Blue team gets along well and they work together in the kitchen. With the Red team, every dinner service is torture – everyone’s yelling at each other and each is quick to blame the other. Slowly but surely, the Red team is being eliminated! They were so bad, that Chef Ramsay kicked the whole team out of the kitchen and Scott and Andi helped him finish the service. After dinner service, back in the dorm, Scott just ran his mouth on and on about who should be sent home. He didn’t do so hot himself but he didn’t really own up to it. He thought that by having the most “fine dining” experience that he was somehow better than everyone. I initially thought that he would make it pretty far in the competition, but listening to him was getting to be unbearable. He views himself as being this great chef, but he messes up just as much as most of the other chefs. Working dinner service with him must be rough – he’s always in everyone’s face! When it came down to elimination, he was put up against Fran and Siobahn – Scott was chosen by Chef Ramsay to leave Hell’s Kitchen. He went so far as to tell Chef Ramsay that the Red team will die without him. WHAT! C’mon man, are you serious? You’re not that good.
Chef Ramsay then put Ben on the Red team; the leadership he showed on the Blue team really impressed Chef Ramsay. Let’s hope it can continue. He hasn’t made too many mistakes in the kitchen. Depending on how things go with the Red team, he may last a while.
Chef Scott – Is He the Best Chef This Season?
The Bachelor: Jake and Vienna part ways!
Oh yeah, you read that correctly, Jake and Vienna have broken up. I guess we all kinda thought that would happen; after all only a handful of couples from The Bachelor are still together. For all the “chemistry” that Jake claimed to be there between him and Vienna, I guess it wasn’t enough. I’m sure there is more to the story that I don’t know, but dude…c’mon… how bad do you feel now? He was so convincing on the show, maybe he was trying to convince himself too.
Having spent time watching the show last season and knowing how things played out on-air, it’s a little disappointing to see it end like this. Was all that time for nothing? What about all the stuff that Jake told us – how he really felt a connection with Vienna, how she was the one for him? Was that all fluff? I’ve only watched one season and I feel like I’ve wasted my time watching the show. I wonder how people feel that have watched EVERY season. So much stress, so many people involved, and yes Chris, so many Final Roses. Why even try to win? You know it’s not going to work out in the end anyway. I guess you go on the show and try your best to last as long as you can and maybe you’ll get to go on some cool trips, all expenses paid. I don’t know.
I’m really glad now that Tenley wasn’t chosen. Who knows, maybe Jake and Tenley would have lasted longer together, but a public break up is not what Tenley deserves. It’s still refreshing to me to know that Jake didn’t really choose the best girl.
Scott and Salvatore: The Student Becomes the Master
Both teams had to roll a die for their ingredients – which may look easy enough, but if we were in that situation, I’m sure many of us wouldn’t do as well as we think. The men were able to create quite a list of ingredients; they could be put together well. The women on the other hand had what seemed like random ingredients and would be hard pressed to make them work well in a single dish. When it came time to be judged, it was close. Amazingly, the women were able to make a pretty good dish given the ingredient they chose. The men won the challenge, but I was leaning more toward the women. They had to think and work creatively to make a good dish using those ingredients. We’ve seen this challenge before, and there’s always one team that chooses ingredients that don’t really work well together. Just once I’d like to see both teams have a pretty good list of ingredients to work with.
The men spent more time with Chef Ramsay and got to simulate skydiving in a wind tunnel – which looked like fun. Unfortunately, the wind tunnel does funny things to the flesh on a person’s face. Check out Jason’s face!
Back at the restaurant the women were pressed for time in order to get both kitchens ready for dinner service. Maria lost it and cried because she didn’t want to disappoint Chef Ramsay. When the men arrived and dinner service started, there was no mention of how under prepared the men were, so it must not have been that big of a deal or the women got some help. Based on what we saw, I was expecting the men to have sub-standard ingredients on their side of the kitchen, but apparently they did not.
Both teams did well during dinner service, Salvatore did a great job on the Salmon and Nilka stood out on the girls’ side. Scott didn’t do very well on the meat station, surprising coming from a guy who was in Jason’s face all through previous dinner services. Salvatore was put in the tough spot of having to put Scott up for elimination – there was no other choice really. Scott really stunk it up and there was no way that Salvatore could have chosen anyone else instead. Chef Ramsay decided to keep both of the chefs that were chosen for elimination, he had them switch teams. I think it was a good decision; both of these chefs have potential. I can’t wait to see how far they each make it, wouldn’t that be funny if they came down to the final 4 or even 2? Maybe Ramsay sees something in them.
Holli and Salvatore work the front of the house – Jean Philippe stops a chef from leaving too soon
At the start of the episode we saw Jason get angry, apparently he didn’t like being put up for elimination by his team and voiced his frustration. One of the guys asks him, “do you think this carries over to dinner service?” We might not be seeing it, but he may be hard to work with if he gets mad in the kitchen. He seems laid back for the most part, which may not benefit him in the long run.
In an effort to get the teams more relaxed and used to working together, Chef Ramsay opens Hell’s Kitchen for lunch; the contestants will make simple meals for the USC marching band. There were pretty good performances on both sides of the kitchen. It came down to the wire and the women took the win. Their reward was a relaxing day at the Malibu Beach Inn – they even played some soccer against the Ramsay family. I guess Ramsay wants to include his family a little bit more in the show, which is nice to see. The men’s punishment was to clean up a huge garbage pile in an effort to help prevent water pollution. At one point, Jason pleaded with American and asked them to stop littering. It was amazing to see the kinds of things they found in that pile.
During dinner service, Salvatore and Holli helped Jean-Philippe in the restaurant. We learned that Salvatore can’t write in English! How embarrassing! After being humiliated by Chef Ramsay, he decided to walk out. Luckily, Jean-Philippe convinces him stay. The women ultimately lose and put Fran and Jaime up for elimination. Jaime is sent home.
It will be interesting to see how Jason does in this competition. He’s pretty laid back, but I hope his temper doesn’t get the best of him. Some of the things he says are hilarious. He’s like the Jay-Z of the cooking world!
