This episode followed Kate after flight 815 landed in LAX and showed more of the developments in the Temple. There was a big surprise at the end that involves a survivor that we really haven’t seen in a while.
Let me start by saying that overall, I didn’t really like this episode. I thought it was slow moving and there really wasn’t much action. That being said, there were some good things about this episode. We see more mirroring of past episodes. Kate is present at the hospital as Claire is close to giving birth to Aaron – Kate helped to deliver Aaron on the island. We also see Ethan at the hospital and he eventually suggests sticking needles into Claire, just like he did on the island.
We got to see a little more of what’s happening in the Temple. The Temple-Dwellers (who are really The Others) are convinced that Sayid has been claimed by the blackness, possibly the Smoke Monster. Dogan, their leader, created a medicine capsule to ‘cure’ Sayid. Jack is reluctant to give it to Sayid, and rightly so. The medicine turns out to be poison. According to Dogan, eventually the blackness will consume Sayid, just as it consumed Jack’s sister. BAM! Claire has been claimed?! Well, it does make sense; the last time we saw her, she was with Christian inside Jacob’s cabin. At the end of this episode Claire makes her appearance, killing 2 of The Others.
There was a little sadness in this episode too; We learned that Sawyer was going to ask Juliet to marry him. Unfortunately, that can’t happen now. How quickly things changed for him. He was living pretty well for the past 3 years in Dharmaville. It’s a shame it had to end. Although, the survivors never did belong in 1977 anyway.
Finally, here are a few things that I noticed:
-In the hospital, Kate had to hide while police officers questioned Claire about a Joan Hart who checked in with her. Claire told them that she was just the cab driver and that she probably left already. As soon as the police left, Kate came out of hiding and started talking to Claire. Immediately I thought, “You better wait a minute or two before going out there.” Any cop worth his or her badge would know to wait by the door for a minute to see what happens. They obviously didn’t, but they should have. Oh by the way, I’m sure the cab was still parked out front!
– Jack actually tried to swallow the poison capsule. Um hello, couldn’t you just tell Dogan, “I don’t trust you. I’m not giving this pill to Sayid unless you tell me what’s in it.” Did he really want to swallow the poison? That was a pretty drastic move.
– After Kate freed herself from the handcuffs, she was able to get back into the cab and find Claire. How’d she do that? Was Claire still waiting on the same corner? Out of all the places Claire could have gone, Kate was able to find her almost too quickly.
I thought the same thing about the cab! If the cab was left parked in front of the hospital, wouldn’t they follow through with more of an extensive search of the hospital? Ask around a little more? I, too, found this episode a little slow. Hopefully the next ones will be a little more exciting.
