The Dukes of Hazzard: Back in the News!

I saw a story on Yahoo.com last week and wanted to write a quick post.  I can’t believe I saw the General Lee front and center on Yahoo.com.  I grew up loving The Dukes of Hazzard, and it still holds a special place in my heart.  I always dreamed of owning my own 1969 Dodge Charger; now Bubba Watson can live that dream.  Congratulations Bubba!  Check out the story here.

On occasion, I’m able to find the time to watch an episode or two.  I still marvel at the stunts and crazy jumps that the General Lee is known for.  Now when I watch, I pay special attention to the car right after after the jump.  Over 300 chargers were destroyed throughout the show.  Check out the pics below.

Until next time, keep it between the ditches!

The Office – Season Premiere

Last week’s season premier of The Office was highly anticipated.  Steve Carell is gone as Michael Scott.  James Spader has been added to the cast and will play Robert California, Michael’s replacement.  Based on what we saw during last season’s finale, I thought that his character would be able to provide some funny moments, especially after seeing Dwight’s interaction with Robert California.  “Stop trying to figure me out!”

I had heard that Robert California wouldn’t be a branch manager for long – I was told he would be promoted pretty quickly.  It was not really a promotion though.  Robert spent 30 seconds in the office, then flew to Tallahassee and convinced Jo to make him the CEO of the company.  That’s a little far-fetched, but this is television and it’s The Office, so we’ll go along with that.  It speaks volumes for the tAndy Bernard as managerype of person Robert is.  As a result Any Bernard was promoted to the branch manager position, a move that I didn’t really expect to see, but it makes sense to me.  During the show, I could see flashes of Michael in the way Andy handled himself.  I felt like “been there done that” sort of, but Andy has been a really funny character on the show, and I can’t wait to see what he brings to the show now that he’s a major player.

I think the season opener was lackluster, it left me thinking, that’s it?  I don’t remember too many high points, there were some laughs, but I wish there were more.  I know it’s the first episode of the new season, but I was hoping they’d knock it outta the park, but they didn’t.  James Spader didn’t have much air time that was memorable.  With all the hype surrounding his addition to the show, I was expecting him to be the focus a little more.

All in all, The Office is back and I’m happy.  I love watching the show and have become attached to the characters.  My wife and I watch past episodes on DVD and Netflix whenever we can.  It’s exciting to be able to watch new episodes and we look forward to many laughs this season.

Celebrity Apprentice – Child’s Play

In this episode the teams were tasked with writing a children’s book and performing it in front of an audience of 4 and 5 year olds.  The winning Project Manager would get $20,000 for their charity.  ASAP chose Lisa Rinna as their Project Manager and Meat Loaf decided to lead Backbone.  ASAP’s brainstorming session was not organized, while Backbone’s seemed to be more on task.  The celebrities had to come up costumes and act out the book, which was fun to watch.  The judges ultimately chose Backbone’s as being the better of the two.  At the end of the Board Room, Lisa Rinna was fired.

I enjoyed watching this episode.  I thought it was funny to see Jose Canseco dressed as a school teacher.  He had some pivotal lines in the play and was nervous right before he went out on stage.  Jose Canseco as TeacherASAP’s brainstorming session was terrible (but it made for some good TV!)  Marlee Matlin was so frustrated with Dionne Warwick.  I douldn’t believe what Dionne said about deaf people in general!  When it came time to put the autor’s name on the book, Star Jones and Dionne Warwick wanted top billing.  That was so childish.  As if they haven’t done enough in their lives already that they need their names on the cover of this book.  I was glad to see Lisa stand up to them and chose to put the team’s name on the cover.

I loved the costume / prop debacle on Team Backbone.  Jose Canseco was getting angry with the situation and Gary Busey looked like he was egging him on.  The highlight of the show for me came when a passerby asked, “are you a movie star?”  Without missing a beat, Jose said, “famous porn star.”  The way Jose said that was so hilarious to me!

As the teams were in the Board Room getting the results, I felt sorry for Gary Busey.  Meat Loaf told Trump that Gary was tough to keep focused.  Even though Meat Loaf may be right, Gary did a great job on stage.  If the men keep calling each other out like that, I have a feeling that fireworks are going to erupt on Backbone soon.

Celebrity Apprentice – Premiere

I sat down to watch the premiere of Celebrity Apprentice and I’m excited to see how this season unfolds. There are some pretty heavyJose Canseco Swinging hitters in this group and a few interesting choices as well. My major motivation to watch is Jose Canseco; back in the late 80’s and early 90’s he was the man as far as baseball was concerned. He was the first 40-40 man (40 homeruns and 40 stolen bases in the same season). Unfortunately, the Oakland Athletics weren’t able to win the 1988 World Series.

I’m excited to see how Canseco works with the other celebrities. Also, from what I’ve seen, I think Gary Busey is going to be a blast to watch. He’s a loose cannon – you don’t know what he’s going to say next! I laughed out loud when he said, “Integrus is weak. She’s suffering from Integrus”. Some of the other celebrities that I expect to do well are Star Jones, John Rich, Richard Hatch and Latoya Jackson.

This week’s challenge was for both teams to run a pizzeria. Star Jones lead the women’s team, ASAP; Richard Hatch lead the men’s team, Backbone. Star Jones made the tough decision to close her pizzeria Gary Busey - Pepperoni Profitso the team could focus on big money customers, specifically one for $40,000. Richard Hatch rubbed his team the wrong way with his leadership style. David Cassidy didn’t bring in very much money, and Jose Canseco brought in nothing.

When the results were tallied, ASAP destroyed Backbone. As a result, the men were sent to the first boardroom. This board room was quite entertaining. Early on in the meeting with Donald Trump, Gary Busey’s cell phone rang. WHAT!? That was such an unexpected thing to happen. Then the poor guy didn’t know how to shut it off! That was funny! Richard felt that Jose was the star on his team, but Jose did not reciprocate; he doesn’t care for Richard and made that perfectly clear to everyone. It came down to Richard, David and Jose; based on what Trump saw, David Cassidy was fired.

One weird thing that I heard during the boardroom was that Trump admitted that he wasn’t a big Richard Hatch fan. I thought to myself, ‘then why is he on your show?’ As the episode ended, it occurred to me – Mark Burnett is the producer of both Survivor and Apprentice. I wonder how Richard got on Apprentice?

I can’t wait to see how this boardroom affects the cohesiveness of Backbone. I’m sure there will be some fallout between Jose and Richard. I do know this, whatever happens, I’m sure I’ll enjoy it!
